SYNOPSYS
What begins as a conversation over breakfast spirals into an excavation of spaces marked by violence. The narrator unravels the geography of her youth in an attempt to fill in the blanks of her fragmented memory. As she attempts to recover what has been concealed from her, she confronts the catastrophic looting and destruction of Palestinian archives by Israeli occupation forces, an act of erasure that ultimately makes a true reconstruction of her own biography impossible.

BIOGRAPHY
Yuula Benivolski (b. 1980 Moscow) is an artist and filmmaker based in Toronto. Working with 16mm film, video, and photography, she deconstructs major historical events into smaller, “human-scale” narratives in order to portray how history is experienced by people on the ground.
Most recently, her films have been shown at e-flux Screening Room / 2023, San Francisco Cinematheque / 2024, DOXA Documentary Film Festival / 2025, Millennium Film Workshop / 2025, DIFFUSION Film Festival / 2025, and the Barbican Centre / 2026. The Black Box is Orange is her first feature.
