SYNOPSYS

Engin, who has lived in prison with his mother since birth, encounters the outside world for the first time when he turns six. Sent to live with his relatives in a village, he struggles to adapt to this new life governed by unfamiliar rules while searching for a way to reunite with his mother.

BIOGRAPHY

Sis Gürdal completed her undergraduate studies in International Politics and Film Studies at King’s College London. After graduating, Gürdal worked on numerous short films and produced advertising and fashion campaigns for global brands such as PRADA, ZARA, CALVIN KLEIN, GQ, NIKE, and VOGUE USA.

Her first short film, Postcards From The Orient (2020), won the Best Experimental Film Award at the Melbourne Short Film Festival and the Global Voices Film Festival UN Women USA, as well as an Honorable Mention at the Women’s Voices Now Festival. A Quiet Summer (Yazın Sonu, 2023), which she wrote and directed, won the Best Short Film Award at the Indie Line Film Festival and an Honorable Mention in the National Short Film Competition at the 19th Akbank Short Film Festival.

In addition to being a TIFF Every Story Fellow, she is an alumna of the Cine Qua Non Lab, the Doha Film Institute Hezayah Screenwriting Lab, and the TIFF Filmmaker Lab. Gürdal, who will compete at the Sarajevo Film Festival with her third short film, Porkatal, is currently working on the development of her debut feature film project, Let Me Explain, which she will write and direct
